Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about grants, tax credits, and how we help Canadian businesses access funding.

General

Canadian businesses can access a wide range of federal and provincial non-dilutive funding, including wage subsidies, R&D tax credits, export support, equipment and facility funding, and innovation grants. Eligibility depends on your industry, location, size, revenue, and growth plans.

A grant is a wage subsidy, monetary award, government funding program, or other non-dilutive funding opportunity that doesn't need to be repaid and doesn't require giving up equity. Grants provide extra cash to help your business grow.

Most businesses can technically apply for grants themselves, but the process is time-consuming and easy to get wrong. We handle research, writing, submission, and reporting from start to finish, so you can focus on running your business while we maximize your non-dilutive funding opportunities.

You're never required to work with us, although we highly recommend you do. Many businesses do apply on their own. Where we tend to add the most value is in identifying every program you qualify for, writing competitive applications, and handling reporting after approval, work that often takes far longer than expected without dedicated support.

Most grant writers stop at writing the application. We handle the entire lifecycle, research, writing, submission, agency communication, and final reporting, under one team, with all five of our core services (grant management, SR&ED, interest-free loans, business plans, and grant loan financing) included in every plan rather than sold separately. We also apply to every relevant program we find, whether it's worth $2,000 or $2,000,000+, and we track our results closely: a 94% approval rate and an average of $334,132 in funding secured per client.

We work primarily with businesses in Innovative Technology, Manufacturing, Clean Energy, Deep Tech, Agriculture, and Housing.

Sometimes. If you're pre-revenue, eligibility generally depends on factors such as how much cash you have in the bank from your latest fundraising round, your level of product/market validation, and your technology readiness level. We can walk you through exactly where your business stands during your eligibility check.

Our quick eligibility check takes about 3 minutes. If you qualify, we'll schedule a complimentary strategy call to walk you through the details.

Grants are best used for expenses you were already planning to incur, such as employee salaries, marketing, business trips, and R&D. Grants should supplement, not substitute, your core business model.

In addition to Full-Service Grant Management, we provide SR&ED Tax Credit consulting, Interest-Free Business Loans application writing, Business Plan and Market Entry Plan writing, and Grant Loan Financing.

Yes. We assist at various stages, including final reporting on already-approved grants and applying for additional funding.

All of our Full-Service Grant Management plans include the same five core services. Pricing is structured as a straightforward monthly engagement, we'll walk you through the exact details on your strategy call.

We maintain a 94% approval rate on the applications we submit. We only move forward once your business and project genuinely align with a program's objectives, and we submit with enough lead time to maximize your chances.

Our Process

We follow a 6-step process: Onboarding, Identify and Validate Opportunities, Build Your Funding Roadmap, Execute and Manage the Full Application, Ensure You Receive the Funds, and Repeat the Process as your business grows.

Full-Service Grant Management covers the entire grant journey: research, writing, submission, agency communication, financial statement review as needed, final reporting, and ongoing funding strategy. There's no cap on the number of relevant applications we submit on your behalf, we pursue every program that's genuinely a fit.

Yes. Every Full-Service Grant Management plan includes the same five core services, grant management, SR&ED, interest-free loans, business plans and market entry plans, and grant loan financing, so you're never missing out on funding just because of which plan you're on.

Timeframes vary from a few weeks to a few months, depending on grant complexity, funding amount, and how quickly you can provide the information we need.

We'll need company details, key documents, project objectives, budget, timeline, team information, and financial statements or projections. Some programs also require a business plan or market entry plan, which we can help prepare.

Yes. We help clients pursue unlimited relevant programs at once wherever it makes sense for their funding roadmap.

Approval isn't guaranteed for any program, funding is limited and competitive. If an application isn't approved, we review what happened, and where appropriate, help you reapply in a future intake or pivot to a better-fit program.

We combine program databases, industry insight, and a detailed understanding of your business and projects to identify programs that are a genuine fit, not just a generic list.

Our team continuously monitors new and upcoming programs and flags relevant ones to you directly, so you don't have to track dozens of programs yourself.

If you qualify, we'll walk you through your results on a complimentary strategy call. From there, the choice is entirely yours, there's no pressure to move forward with us afterward.

Yes. All plans include a 3-month initial commitment, followed by a 60-day cancellation notice. Since a typical grant application takes 3 to 5 months to get approved, this window ensures your applications have enough runway to actually reach a decision before anything winds down.

Grant Programs

IRAP (the Industrial Research Assistance Program) is a federal program delivered by the National Research Council that funds technology innovation projects. It typically covers 80% of costs for technical employees and 50% for Canadian contractors, with project funding starting around $75,000 to $150,000 for a first-time applicant and scaling up for larger, later-stage projects up to $10,000,000. To qualify, your business generally needs to be a CCPC (Canadian-controlled Private Corporation) or Canadian public corporation, have at least two non-executive employees, and be working on genuine technical innovation, not just commercialization or operational work.

SR&ED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) is a federal tax incentive, not a grant. It refunds a percentage of eligible R&D expenditures as a tax credit, which can be claimed alongside other grants and subsidies.

RTRI (the Regional Tariff Response Initiative) is a federal program delivered by Canada's regional development agencies to help businesses adapt to trade disruptions and tariffs. It supports projects that diversify markets, boost productivity, adopt new technology, or strengthen supply chains, with 50% funding up to a $1,000,000 grant. Intake is open on a rolling basis, with funding available until it's fully allocated or the program's application deadline passes.

Yes. All programs referenced on our site are active, publicly funded initiatives. Availability and funding pools change over time, which is part of why timing and early engagement matter.
