STSI is unusual and easy to misread: the money does not come to the company. It is a 45% tax credit for investors who back an Eligible Startup Business, so the benefit to a Saskatchewan startup is that raising private capital becomes markedly easier. Credits are allocated first come, first served, and eligibility now extends to life sciences alongside digital and clean technology.
Saskatchewan-based startups developing novel digital, clean or life-sciences technology qualify as Eligible Startup Businesses; the credit itself goes to the individuals, corporations and limited partnerships investing in them.
