About this program

Cost-share funding for on-farm water supply projects such as dugouts, dams, wells and spring developments, to an On-Farm Water Supply Stream maximum of $40,000 per applicant for the period April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2028. Standard incentive projects are funded at up to 50% of eligible expenses; special incentives are project-specific and vary. For dugouts, dams and spring developments an approved Construction Sheet from an Agriculture and Irrigation water specialist is required before planning or construction begins.

Who is eligible

Alberta primary producers responsible for input costs for agricultural crops or livestock producing at least $25,000 worth of farm commodities annually, and liable for Alberta or Canadian income or corporate tax on farming income. Landlords holding only an ownership interest in land are excluded.
